Found my Sole Mate

I think these might be perfect. I have found these boots to significantly minimize my foot (arthritis in 1st metatarsal joint), knee (meniscus tear, minor) and back (arthritis) issues. I've tried multiple brands hiking boot over the years, but these really seem to do the trick. Perhaps it is a combination of the rigid sole, wide and deep toe box, and the max cushioning. Altras come close but do not have enough cushion. I hiked 5 hours in these with nothing but pleasure. They are also very grippy on boulders. Note: They run large - had to go down a full size.

Be careful with the Hoka one one hiking boot. The soul comes unglued. REI won’t return the shoe they want to glue it. Bad customer service.

A must buy for serious, long distance hikers!

I have been an avid and long term Hoka user for endurance sports. Previous hiking boots by Hoka seemed to miss the mark time and time again. I’m glad I didn’t give up. The Sky Kaha is a home run for serious hikers with the same quality and comfort of Hoka’s running shoes. I truly appreciate the larger toe box on my 8+ hour hiking days. I find the lacing system perfect for stopping heel slippage on steep uphills and toe pounding on steep downhills. All my feet, knee and hip pain have disappeared since my purchase of the Sky Kaha. Thank you Hoka!!!

Cadillac of Hiking Boots

So far I’ve worn these on six 8-10 mile hikes in steep, rocky Arizona terrain. Don’t understand some of the comments here, so am adding my take. I am petite with somewhat narrow feet and slim ankles and calves. I wear the boot with a sock liner and trekking sock. I’m always a size 9 and found the size 9 in this boot to be a perfect fit, similar to that of my Salomon boots. The boots, while a tad wider than the Salomon, are similar in size-so no “clown shoes” look. I like the rocker sole and have experienced less calf and leg fatigue wearing these. Great traction on slippery rocks and scree. IMO a great choice for long distance, multi-day hikes, not necessarily the best option for a casual boot or work shoe.

Dream boots for the toes

These boots are amazing! I recently donated my old boots because they no longer fit. I wasn’t rushed into buying boots; I wanted something that would fit great. I spent hours at the store trying on boots but there was always something that wasn’t great. I have been wearing Hoka running shoes in women’s size 9D and so I ordered the Hoka hiking boot size 9. I was so glad I waited! These boots are amazing! I can move my toes freely and nothing pinches. I have high arches and wide feet and these boots are a saving grace.

Perfect boots for imperfect feet

Hokas are now officially the only running shoes or hiking boots that my girlfriend will wear. Her chronic plantar fasciitis means that most footwear leaves her in pain after even a few miles on her feet. These boots are the most comfortable she's ever worn. The waterproof liner is perfect for keeping warm and the design is quite stylish for technical apparel.

Luxurious footbed but no ankle support.

I really wanted to like these boots. The footbed is well cushioned and incredibly comfortable but the ankle is lacking in support and comfort. There is very little padding in the ankle and virtually no support. The eyelets put pressure against my ankles no matter how I adjusted the laces. These boots are also very wide and my heel slipped when walking around the house. I ended up returning them.

too big

They seem like great boots, but they are just too spacious in the toe box. I know you need a little extra room, buy the looseness makes my foot feel unsupported. I’ll try a half size smaller.

No pain, only gain

I always had ball of my feet and heel pain regardless of boot types or heel insert. I have tried most boot types. So I decided to give this a try. After a few day trips of about 10 miles each trip in white mountains, I put it to a test with Pemi loop in a day, 31.5 miles. I was shock I had no foot pain at all. All my previous boots always gave me pain the last 6 miles on flat but not from this boots. Also boots have good grips on steep and wet slippery rocks, and waterproof in water crossing. What I don't like about this boots are, 1) toe box too wide but I always wear thick wool socks and proper lacing helps. 2) I think to compensate with comfort, the sole may not last as long as the backpacking boots. But I'm ok with that. 3) Look so big that I look like a clown but I'll live.

Comfortable with some issues

I have joint problems in my toes and have worn hokas for over 2 years at the suggestion of my podiatrist. These are a good update to the hoka tor summits that were discontinued a couple years ago. However, they do run at least a half size large, and they also run on the wider side -- great if you need to insert an orthotic or want to wear thicker socks. The ankle support is ok, but like another reviewer mentioned, the eyelets or padding around the ankle digs into my ankle bone. Only my right ankle, so I wonder if the boot is defective (I ordered another pair to see). After about a quarter mile on a test hike I had to take them off and put on another pair of boots because of the ankle issue! Disappointing. I came home and switched out orthotics and tried them on again and took my dog for an hour walk and it was no longer digging into my ankle bone, thankfully. I still think they are a tad too large though and I would prefer the ankle to be ok no matter what orthotic I use.
