Rated 2 out of 5 by from Achille's Heel I loved this speaker, at first, for its durability and versatility and even took it Kayaking twice. It's not the loudest or deepest but I figured it was worth the trade off for the other features. Unfortunately, after everyday use at work (in a kitchen) the waterproof latch on the back snapped off. I returned it and got a new one. Having this knowledge of the weakspot, I was extremely careful with my "durable" speaker this time but the waterproof latch broke, once again, in under a month. What's the point of something being waterproof everywhere but the electronics port? I would not recommend this product until they make the only moving part more durable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Acoustic OK / Electronic Nay Purchased this speaker with some high hopes after reading about its awesome durability / battery life / IPX7 rating / crisp sound. And more glowing accolades everywhere. In person, it's pretty small but it is exceptionally well made as a unit. The door on the back that has a latch is a great idea to protect aux/power ports from the elements; it also could break pretty easily if you bumped the speaker while charging or had the aux port in use -- it didn't happen but it was constantly on my mind. The Solar Panel was way better than expected for being so small, in decent summer sunlight, it did charge during the day, as it played, and basically kept the battery at par as it was in use. The sound is crisp, treble is great. But the bass is seriously lacking. I know I shouldn't expect a speaker so small to sound 'big' -- but the description and the reviews for 'great sound' are very misleading if you like anything other than acoustic or vocals. Anything with drums, bass, or deep strings comes out FLAT. Volume boosted and even tweaked via a EQ is a waste. Usually you get a few more miles out of your speaker this way, but it wasn't to be. I own another speaker that I purchased through REI that was of similar value and will continue to use that one. The room filling sound that is touted for the Braven model is possible, but anyone can scream. If the speaker was twice or three times as big it might do what they claim. If you like tight treble and Acoustic sounds, this will do alright for you. But if you're into full and deep sound you may have to look elsewhere. Hope REI brings Braven other larger models into circulation. They're not as portable, but they're worth it for the car camper or the base camper who can afford to pack in a little more for the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Sound in a small Speaker I have been using this for the last few months and it has crushed all of the previous outdoor speakers that I have had before. The sound is great, its virtually indestructible and the solar piece is genius! I have been able to use it in good sunlight and not even really use the battery. Not to mention it is compatilbe with all of my go pro mounts. I have been able to use it on my bike and boat using old go pro mounts.

Besides solar, how can this be charged? Cord, battery? Also, it is Bluetooth compatible and can you use it to charge your phone at the same time?

Asked by: GlockGirl44
The BRV-PRO + Waterproof Combo Pack Speaker has a rechargeable battery that can be charged with the included USB charger. Yes, the speaker can charge a device while being used to play music. Be aware the power output will only charge devices that draw between .3 - 1 amp. Other devices that require more than 1 amp will not charge at all.

Can two speakers be used from one blue tooth device?

Asked by: Donfax
That depends on the Bluetooth source pair. Most Bluetooth devices only allow pairing with one device at a time.

I've bought "waterproof" speakers in the past for our rafting trips. They get wet or end up in the water and dont work after. I want to make sure that this speaker can handle getting splashed on all day and the occasional landing in the river.

This thing is a tank.  I kayak camp/fish regularly and I'm hard on gear in general.  I've burned through many speakers even using dry bags and I finally found one that can take some serious abuse.  Buy this and never look back.  Incredible battery life, not to mention I use it to charge my GoPro and phone on overnight fishing trips.  Water doesn't effect it at all.  It is plenty loud, if not overkill.   My only complain is it's heavy, but like I said... it's a tank.
