Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely lightweight winter coat Got some giftcards to REI for Christmas. Hit up the local store in Des Moines, IA on New Year's Day. The staff was very helpful in trying out several coats in the store. I ended up purchasing this coat. I got a Large, which fit perfectly. A couple other brands, the Large was either smaller or larger than this Columbia coat. The coat this replaced was an inexpensive coat from a department store. The old coat was warm and protected me from the elements, but it was incredibly heavy. In comparison, this Columbia is extremely lightweight, and yet has already been through a couple of -20° weekends here in Iowa. The only thing I've noticed over the last 2.5 weeks is that the inner sleeves (from the removable jacket) move a bit, so it'd be nice to have a better closure system on the cuffs so the sleeves don't move as much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice versatile warm jacket I walk my dogs regardless of the weather. In this jacket I'm always warm and dry. Here in Chicago it gets into the negatives quite often in the winter. I wear this with just a tee shirt underneath and am quite warm. It has a ton of pocket space and the ability to pull it tight every where you can imagine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kept me very warm in Bavarian winter weather I bought it because of warmth eating and fit. Spending three weeks in Munich with very cold wind and snow this winter. Very pleased with product and fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional help in deciding to purchase All in all, the staff was great to bounce my thoughts off of regarding my need/want and budget. I'm happy with the coat in the urban environment. All in all, I'd prefer to have purchase all REI brand due to my love of their discontinued running gear and the reliability of the construction. 5 stars for the coat and 5 stars for the staff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and waterproof I recently purchased this jacket at the last minute before heading out to a rainy location for vacation. Whist other tourists required umbrellas, I stayed dry with this jacket alone. I was originally hoping to purchase The North Face 3-in-1 thermo ball, but REI didn't have the right size and colors at a discount. I'm glad I got this one because in a strong downpour this jacket held up better than my wife's North Face thermo ball. Size wise I heard other customers complain about the jacket being too big. This was not the case for me. It is a bit tight around the shoulders for me, but I guess this will vary for every individual. My big complaint about this jacket is that the inner material dies not let sweat pass easily. I keep having to take it off when I go indoors or my arms will start sweating and the inner material will feel damp against my skin. I guess this is why it performed better than my wife's North Face in a downpour, but I felt if Columbia had lined the inside with cloth material it would be more comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Runs large I bought the large and it fit like an xtra large, but a little bit smaller - too big for me. So I got the medium and it fits better than the large, but it is snug. It will work, but it is not ideal, but hey it was on sale and I had a discount.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Combination of Layers -- Runs Big I'm very happy with with jacket. It runs big, though. I'm usually a medium (5'10, 160lbs, 32in waist) but I had to exchange it for a small. The combination of layers is extremely versatile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great adaptable 3-in-1 I'm outside every day no matter the weather. Most days I'm walking my dog. Some days I'm hiking and camping. I needed a coat to cover me through fall, winter, and early spring. It's my first 3-in-1 and I love it. I can wear just the shell and be comfortable up to 65 degrees. I find it truly windproof, water resistant, and the pit zippers help to keep me cool on the warmer days. Lots of pockets and ample space. I was a little disappointed because a month after owning the jacket, water stopped beading on the fabric. It's no real bother though. I still remain dry no matter how heavy the rain. By itself, the liner is nice to have on those sunny days where the wind is calm, but the temperature is near freezing. It has a large inside pocket to stuff ski gloves and a cap. My only complaint with it is the outside pockets are made with some sort of microfiber and they snag on dry, cracked hands or rough gloves. Put the two together and I've battled single digit, windy, snowy days and still felt comfortable. For the past 5 months, I've worn this jacket practically every day. It's held up very well. Couldn't be happier.
