Rated 3 out of 5 by from Please note -- the Hood is NOT removable This is a great looking jacket and I had ordered it via TNF's incredibly helpful folks at the warranty department (replacing a much older TNF jacket that finally gave up the ghost). I wanted one with a removable hood and they were kind enough to actually pull one and open the package to check on the hood -- Although the website indicates it is detachable, it is actually fixed (you cannot remove it). Since I was looking for something without a hood they recommended the Triclimate Snow. Great customer service! (They said they would get this corrected on the website, but in case you're looking for a removable hood I left this "review")

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It has everything... I have to hand it to North Face for putting it all together. This has all the features you want. It's waterproofing is legit. The removable liner makes this an everyday jacket because of the versatility--although even on a warm day the liner is breathable enough to keep you cool on the hill and warm in the lift. On a cold day it's warm and toasty. Length is perfect. All the pockets are in the right place--with or without the liner in. Tightening the bottom from inside your pockets is dynamite. The goggle wipe in the sleeve pocket is pure genius. The one wish I have is that the powder skirt could be utilized with the liner in. It's not worth deducting a star, though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great jacket but with design flaws. This is a great jacket, warm and stylish. I won't rehash the advantages that other reviewers have mentioned, but will point out the three issues I had with it. 1. There should be a storm flap in front of the main zipper, for better wind and water protection. 2. The powder skirt and internal pockets are only accessible if you unzip the inner jacket from the outer layer. This means the inner jacket needs to be zipped up on its own, but the zipper pull is not double sided, resulting in difficulty in zipping the inner jacket and also having the zipper pull dangling inside against your chin/neck. This, I feel, is quite a big oversight and honestly a deal breaker for me given the amount I paid for the jacket. 3. The hood should be made smaller for off-mountain use, or made detachable. Too large for use without a helmet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hood is way to large Good jacket- warm, wind proof and reasonably light weight. I would have kept it however the built in hood is much too large to be functional unless one is wearing a helmet. When cinched up, it was still very large and ill fitting. Without it cinched it covered almost my entire face. In the future, it would be nice to see a jacket line up with more everyday specific options on their jackets. i.e. would you like to order a helmet compatible hood, non helmet compatible or detachable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good, but sent it back I didn't get to try the jacket on out in the real cold, but I don't doubt that it would perform fine. I just didn't like the flimsy feel of the 3-in-1. I didn't like that I would be wearing the outside of the thermoball jacket as the inside of the jacket. I didn't care for the mesh liner of the shell, or the non-secure mesh pockets. For the price, I just didn't feel like I was getting a quality thermoball jacket, or a quality shell. If you own the regular thermoball full-zip, then you will be disappointed with all other thermoball jackets, especially the ones in the 3-in-1's regardless of price. Trust me, I tried them all, and they all feel like cheap versions of the full-zip.

The helmet compatible hood, is it functional/comfortable wearing it without a helmet? It appears awefully big...

Asked by: Marshall Tucker
The hood can be brought down to a "normal" size with use of the volume control on the back and the two cinch cords at the sides of the neck.

How do you remove the hood? Does not appear to be removable per the description.

Asked by: Boulders203
The hood has a hook and loop attachment on both sides near the neck. There is also snaps on both sides. Both are covered. There is also a short zipper on the back of the neck to complete the securing of the hood to the jacket.
