Unsupported: Fastest Known Times on the John Muir Trail Film
- Group size: 65
- Instructor: A. Currano & J. Fitzpatrick
The John Muir Trail runs 219 miles from Yosemite Valley to the summit of Mount Whitney, crossing 9 major passes with a cumulative elevation gain of about 38,000 feet. The average hiker takes 3-4 weeks to complete what many consider the most beautiful and captivating trail in the United States. This film is not about the "average" hiker - it is an intimate look at those who strive to go further, faster. These wilderness athletes hike 50-70 miles of stunningly gorgeous and relentlessly difficult terrain each day, attempting to set a new "Fastest Known Time" (FKT) on the JMT. Alone and unsupported, with barely edible food and little to no sleep, they push the limits of their own minds and bodies in the pristine wilderness of the Sierra Nevada. "Unsupported" explores the motivations, challenges, delusions and hallucinations that drive these men and women to push themselves to their limits and beyond, while giving the viewer a taste of what these epic journeys entail.
