This is a classroom introduction to outdoor climbing. The beginner class assumes no prior experience and you MUST be at least 18 years of age. The primary purpose for the beginner climbing class is to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to rock climbing. The indoor free class consists of practicing climbing knots and belay and rappel procedures. Texas Mountaineers offers an outdoor paid class where students are taught the following climbing concepts: proper use of climbing equipment, basic climbing techniques, belaying techniques, rappelling techniques, proper use of climbing signals between climber and belayer, proper stance, balance and control, setting up top-rope anchors, different types of climbs (faces, cracks, chimneys, dihedrals). The free classroom session provides hands on practice with equipment and a discussion of what will happen at the outdoor class.
