Tree Planting in Blue Island

Blue Island is a working-class community that is committed to both its residents and its tree canopy. Located along the Cal-Sag Trail, this majority BIPOC city contains areas with as little as 16% canopy cover, leading to heat islands, elevated flooding risks and poor air quality. With financial support from Oak Street Health and help from volunteers like you, we will be planting an additional 20 trees in Blue Island's parkways to reduce heat islands and create much-needed shade. We will meet at 3046 W 127th Street. No experience is necessary, but advance registration is required. Volunteers will help us dig holes, plant trees, mulch, and water. Please bring a mask, long pants, and closed toe shoes, and bring a (full) water bottle. We will take care of everything else! Note that masks may need to be worn for the duration of the project. We will limit group size and maintain social distancing as needed for participants' health and safety. We look forward to making a difference in this community and hope that you will join us!
