The Lands Council's SpoCanopy program is partnering with the City of Spokane Urban Forestry and Park Operations teams to mitigate damage from the January 13 windstorm in Spokane County. The park system lost approximately 200 trees due to the storm. We also saw damage to park amenities including tennis courts, a playground, a golf building, lights, fences, benches, and picnic tables. We will have two separate plantings on October 9th, so you will have two opportunities to help repair the windstorm damage. 10am - 1pm at Audubon Park or 1-3pm at Comstock Park. During the planting event, the NE Washington Native Plant Society, the US Forest Service, the City's Urban Forestry Division and other organizations will host educational booths with information about maintaining healthy trees and current threats to our urban forest.
