Get some exercise and improve quality of life for seniors by helping us plant trees at this affordable retirement community! With support from WestRock and the Arbor Day Foundation, we will plant approximately 20 trees on the Lafayette Terrace grounds. By spending more time outside in tree-filled spaces, residents will experience mental and physical health benefits while strengthening community ties through socialization. Air quality will increase while temperatures and ambient noise are reduced, creating attractive, beautiful, engaging spaces for residents to enjoy. In addition to reducing the elders' exposure to extreme heat, reduced surface temperatures can result in lower energy bills, further increasing Lafayette Terrace's safety and affordability for this vulnerable population. This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. Please wear a mask, long pants, and closed toe shoes, and bring a (full) water bottle. We will take care of everything else! Volunteers will help us dig holes, plant trees, mulch, and water. Note that masks must be worn for the duration of the project. Group size is limited for the health and safety of participants.
