Book a private session and you'll get this entire experience all to yourself--and up to three additional friends or family members. You'll enjoy more one-on-one time with the guide/instructor, more flexibility throughout the session, and a more personal experience for everyone who joins you. Price covers all costs for up to 4 people. This class will introduce you to the fundamentals of kayaking in a comfortable setting and at a relaxed pace. You will learn about proper strokes and paddling technique, and get the chance to practice these new skills on a beautiful, local waterway. REI's expert guides will also teach the basics of water safety, trip planning, and how to have an enjoyable time on the water. This is a great way to build a new skill set or improve upon what you already know about kayaking. REI provides kayaks, paddles and all necessary safety equipment.

  • Learn how to launch and stay comfortable in a kayak
  • Practice the forward, reverse, and sweep paddle strokes
  • Get exposure to the fundamentals of on the water safety
  • Private sessions can accommodate up to four participants, but you'll only need to enter your own information when registering. We'll collect any details we need from the other participants on the day of the event.

Notes

In accordance with California Department of Public Health, only members of a single household may participate in this session. Guided or instructional services are permitted outdoors, as long as social distancing is maintained and face covering requirements are followed for the duration of the activity. PLEASE NOTE: Only one person will register for this (tour), but this private session allows a total group size of 4 people.

Parking is free except in the lot closed to boat ramp which costs $10. There is a restroom at the Richmond Marina Office.
