Private Session: Backcountry Navigation With A Map and Compass
Saturday, January 30, 2021
10:00am-2:00pm
Book a private session and you'll get this entire experience all to yourself--and up to three additional friends or family members. You'll enjoy more one-on-one time with the guide/instructor, more flexibility throughout the session, and a more personal experience for everyone who joins you. Price covers all costs for up to 4 people. During this class, our instructors will help you understand the information provided on your map, the proper use of your compass, and how to put the two together. You'll learn about magnetic north, true north, and magnetic variation (declination). After covering these fundamentals, you'll get time to practice taking a bearing from the terrain and your map so that you can make sense of your position and plan a route. This engaging course is a great introduction to outdoor navigation and map reading!
In accordance with CA Department of Public Health, only members of a single household may participate in this session. Guided or instructional services are permitted outdoors, as long as social distancing is maintained and face covering requirements are followed for the duration of the activity. Last mile to the parking area is DIRT road. Access might require crossing Crevis Creek. Cross on the extreme left side of the road, the shallowest section of the creek. Bathrooms available, no water.
