There are few views as spectacular as an Appalachian sunset. Join REI's professional guides on a leisurely hike as the dropping sun paints the mountains shades of pink, purple, and blue. We'll set out before dusk and reach the highest point of our hike just in time to watch the sun sink below the horizon. Along the way, we'll explore the rich history and natural wonder of this iconic region. This hike is approximately 3 miles round trip on easy/moderate terrain.

REI operates under a Special Use Permit issued by the U.S. Forest Service for guiding in the Pisgah National Forest.

More directions and information

From the Blue Ridge Parkway, turn onto Black Balsam Knob Rd. (just past milepost 420) and follow it until the road ends. Park in the large lot and look for your REI guide. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead, but no running water.
