Understanding terrain is a vital skill for safe backcountry travel. The key is to match terrain and travel plans with the current snowpack and avalanche danger. In 1 hour we'll cover how to spot avalanche-prone slopes, how to travel safely through avalanche terrain, and how to use terrain to your advance both on the way up and on the way down. We'll discuss certain consideration for individual avalanche problems, teach you how to measure slope angle, and a few easy practices to minimize group exposure while in avalanche terrain. This presentation does not replace hands-on education and we always recommend taking an on-snow course from an accredited provider.
