Canyoneering can be very fun and exhilarating. Just like any other sport though, there are certain safety precautions to take, specific gear to wear & use, and general rules to follow to ensure an enjoyable adventure. The intent of this class is to provide students with an overview of the basic personal canyoneering skills needed to descend easy canyons as team members with competent leaders and mentors. Skills introduced will include: ACA Canyon Rating System, Logistics and Safety, Canyon Beta, Leave No Trace Ethics, Rope and Equipment Requirements/Care, Basic Knots, Intro to Anchors and Rigging, Whistle and Hand Signals, Rappelling, Belaying, and Self-Rescue. Skills covered are the minimum you should have before entering a canyon with anyone. The ACA's main mission is to see people descend canyons safely by providing education, knowledge, and training.
