Come hear about one of Buncombe County's newest resources - Appalachian Wildlife Refuge, a non-profit based in Candler to help provide care for injured and orphaned native wildlife and to help WNC's wildlife rehabilitation network. Since opening the Appalachian Wild Urgent Care facility on July 8, 2018, it has helped more than 1,500 animals in need. The session will cover how it began and its vision to establish a full-service wildlife rehabilitation center with research and community education components. For those interested in helping native wildlife, volunteers will explain their roles and experience and respond to questions from participants. There are opportunities for virtually any skillset: clerical, financial, and technological as well as writers, fundraisers, transporters, and triage workers. Every volunteer is valued for his or her contributions and every effort is made to ensure to find an area of service that is the right "fit" for those who donate their valuable time.
