There's no better way to spend a weekend than out in the woods! Join us at Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area where we'll spend the night at secluded campsite. You won't believe you're only 20 miles from downtown Atlanta! Our guides will work with you to help you choose and use equipment, make sure your backpack fits perfectly, and demonstrate the best ways to maximize your comfort and fun. You'll also learn about campsite selection, camp cooking, water treatment and Leave No Trace etiquette. This course includes all required gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, pad, stove, all cookware, trekking poles, and water filters) and food. If you have been thinking about trying out backpacking, this is an adventure not to be missed.

A list of required and optional gear items to bring to class, as well as gear provided by REI.

2 Liters of Water - At least two one-liter water bottles, such as a Nalgene bottle, or a large hydration bladder.
Face Covering(s) - Masks should be two or more layers and fit snugly under the chin and over the nose and mouth. Please come prepared with more than one as your primary mask may get wet and no longer be functional.
Hiking Boots
Hiking Socks - Mositure wicking socks to help keep your feet cool and dry.
Mug
Personal Prescription Medications - Including, but not limited to, epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylactic allergies.
Personal Toiletries
Plate/Bowl
Rain Gear - Waterproof/resistant jacket, pants and hat.
Sun Protection - Lip balm, sunscreen, wide-brim hats, etc.
Three Season Sleeping Bag - A bag rated 15 degrees plus.
Utensils - A good choice is the REI Campware Utensil Set
Weather Appropriate Clothing - Moisture wicking synthetic or wool layers to help keep you comfortable and/or dry.
