Are you an experienced gym climber that desires to learn the skills needed to sport climb? Join REI and Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness for a unique two-day sport climbing experience that will introduce you to sport climbing and help you transition from climbing in the gym to climbing outdoors. This course is intended for experienced climbers seeking the skills and safety knowledge needed to lead bolted sport climbs and lead belay outdoors. You must have a minimum of 3 months climbing experience and the ability to climb 5.10 top rope without hanging. This two-day climbing experience starts in the gym Thursday night where you'll meet your Mesa Rim instructor and fellow climbers. You'll learn clipping stances, how to lead belay, and avoid risks associated with lead climbing in a hands-on, ground school setting. On Saturday, you'll meet your REI instructor at Mission Trail Regional Park, where they will provide you with a full day of climbing instruction focusing on the uniqueness of climbing outside such as evaluating bolts, constructing anchors, and cleaning climbs while on a mock lead.
