Come learn trad climbing in some of the most iconic crags in the Sierra. Learn to lead cracks while placing removable traditional gear such as cams or nuts. Our rock climbing instructors will teach you how to lead belay, place removable gear (cams and nuts), and plan your route, all from the safety of a mock lead. This class is designed for experienced top rope climbers wanting to gain the skills necessary to lead trad climbs. All gear will be provided by REI Outdoor School. Participants should be comfortable on top-rope climbing cracks at a 5.8 difficulty, have strong belaying skills, and have one year of consistent climbing experience. Additional trad climbing anchors or technique classes serve as an excellent primer for trad leading.
