  • Fitness level : 3

Spend your day hiking and your night under the stars with REI in the beautiful Texas Hill Country of Colorado Bend State Park. Join our professional Outdoor School Instructors for an overnight backpacking tour into one of the most stunning areas, filled with caves, springs, beautiful vistas, and natural history. We'll cover 8 miles over two days in this loop along the spring-fed creeks and hilltops, and bed down in a primitive backcountry site. Early Saturday morning you'll meet your instructors at REI Austin Downtown to review your gear, choose your dinner for the night, and make sure you have all you'll need, and then we will shuttle everyone to the park. On the trip we'll explain how to choose and use equipment (including how to load and carry your backpack) to maximize your comfort and fun. You'll also learn about campsite selection, navigation/route finding, camp cooking, water treatment, wildlife precautions and Leave No Trace etiquette. REI provides transportation and the following gear: backpack, tent, sleeping pads, stoves, all cookware, foldable chair, trekking poles, water filter, eating utensils, and food. Please note: at just over 8 miles roundtrip, this trip does involve moderate exercise. Sleeping bag is NOT provided. Recommended for ages 14 and older; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
