REI hosts NOLS instructors to deliver the industry standard in wilderness medicine certification. If you work or recreate in the outdoors or in other remote environments where access to medical care is delayed or communication is unreliable, this class is essential! Upon completion, you will be able to conduct a thorough physical exam, obtain a patient history, assess vital signs, provide emergency care in the wilderness, and make crucial evacuation decisions. Scenarios and practice sessions will take place both indoors and outside. Stage (moulage) blood and make-up are used to enhance the realism of a scenario. Class is held daily from 8 am - 5 pm with an hour break for lunch; a 4-hour evening, outdoor mock rescue is also part of the curriculum. Attendance is required at all classes.
