If you work or recreate in the outdoors or in other environments where access to medical care is delayed or communication is unreliable, this 10 day Wilderness First Responder course taught by our partners at NOLS Wilderness Medicine is for you! It is the industry standard for professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor recreationists, and international travelers. This is a fast-paced, rigorous, and engaging course, that involves realistic scenarios, including a full-scale night mock rescue. You'll learn both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather, so come prepared for wet, muddy, cold, or hot environments! Upon completion, you will be able to conduct a thorough physical exam, obtain a patient history, assess vital signs, provide emergency care in the wilderness, and make crucial evacuation decisions. Adult and Child CPR & Airway Management certification is included. Note the course is 10 days with one day off for a total of 9 days of instruction. Review NOLS' policies including attendance and minimum age requirements here (https://nols.edu/en/wilderness-medicine/planning/policies). Note that close physical contact is an inherent part of this course. We want to ensure you are aware of how NOLS is responding to the coronavirus pandemic, so you can make an informed decision about participation. Please review the Student Disclosure and watch the COVID-19 Practices video linked in the course page prior to registering.
