Experience an exclusive, evening view of San Marcos' Spring Lake from one of REI's sit on top kayaks. Floating on top of the crystal clear waters of the Edwards Aquifer, catch the colors of sunset as they roll over the surface of the Lake. Learning about this sensitive resource and the surrounding flora and fauna will offer you an opportunity to understand the history of Central Texas and the important role of this very water. No previous kayaking experience is necessary. All paddling gear and instruction provided by REI (please bring your own headlamp). To prevent species contamination in Spring Lake, please leave all personal boats and paddling equipment at home.

  • Basic on-the-water instruction

  • Knowledge of Spring Lake's natural history and the importance of its diverse ecosystem


This class will take place at Spring Lake in San Marcos, TX. There is a $3 parking fee in the main parking lot - debit/credit cards are accepted. You will receive a reminder email 72 hours before your class

Spring Lake is located off Aquarena Springs Drive in San Marcos. Turn into the property via San Marcos Springs Drive, and park in the first parking lot, next to the ticket booth. There is a $3/day parking fee. Restrooms and water foundations are available. Meet the REI instructor(s) at the ticket booth. Please leave all valuables in your car.
