Whether you are thru hiking or just taking a short weekend trip, REI Outdoor School can help you prepare for your next trip on the Appalachian Trail. In this class, we will discuss details of food and equipment selection, including picking the right clothing/layers, and gear details. You'll learn everything from selecting the right tent for the right conditions to smaller items such as , "should we hike with gaiters". We'll discuss food and calorie needs for the trail, river and stream crossings, and risk management in adverse weather conditions.
This is the fourth part of an ongoing series geared in part to help anyone planning a through hike in 2020, whether it be on the AT, the PCT, the CDT, or El Camino de Santiago. This session will primarily focus on AT thru-hike planning. Be sure to also register for our 1/25 wilderness medicine sessions (morning & afternoon), our 1/14 through hiking basics, and our 2/15 map & compass workshops (morning & afternoon sessions).
