Winter is here! Time to hit the trail, breathe in some fresh air, and explore the frozen canyons of Starved Rock State Park. One of our favorite places to explore this time of year, this trail system gives us access to frozen waterfalls, geologic wonders, and stunning overlooks of the Illinois River. If we're lucky, we might even cross paths with a bald eagle. Following this beginner friendly trail system, we'll hike 5 miles at a relaxed pace, learning all about the surrounding ecosystem along the way. We'll also share tips for staying comfortable while hiking, and offer insight on planning your own hikes any time of year. So grab your day pack, lace up those boots and we'll see you at the trailhead!
