Home to 30 miles of Chesapeake shoreline and the largest old growth forest on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Wye Island is a natural treasure. Join REI Outdoor School instructors on a full-service tour and enjoy the solitude and beauty of tidal Chesapeake waters. You'll meet your instructors early and head out for the Eastern Shore in REI transportation. Wye Island is just south of the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. After equipment orientation and skills instruction, we'll launch from the mainland and paddle the serene inlets that surround Wye Island. There are several soft kayak landing spots on the island which will allow us to go ashore for a catered lunch and a quick hike to explore before getting back on the water for more exploration. Expect to see abundant wildlife in this haven for waterfowl and other residents of the mighty Chesapeake. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating parent or responsible adult. REI provides transportation, a catered lunch, skills instruction and guiding, and all kayaks and specialty kayaking equipment.
