The first step in your mountaineering adventure, learn skills and techniques for glacier & snow travel. Techniques will include crampon use, mountain axe use for self-arrest and self-belay, and backcountry snow travel. Discover proper nutrition, gear, clothing and well being for mountaineering endeavors.

  • Learn and practice techniques to safely ascend and descend snow slopes.
  • Learn and practice self-belay.
  • Learn and practice self-arresting.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time for parking and paperwork considerations. CA SNO-PARK Pass REQUIRED for each vehicle, available for purchase at any Sacramento Area REI locations or online at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. Daily Pass: $5; Season Pass: $25. Limited, complimentary group transportation is available from REI Roseville on a first come, first served basis. Please register for transportation at the link below.
