Prepare for the unexpected in this hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine program taught by our partners at NOLS. If you work in a wilderness setting, enjoy outdoor activities or recreation opportunities, this 16-hour course is for you! Instruction will take place in classrooms and outdoor settings regardless of weather. Course completion results in a Wilderness First Aid certification. IMPORTANT: COVID-19 vaccination is required. Please bring proof of vaccination to your course. A negative COVID-19 test will not be accepted. On a case-by-case basis, NOLS may make an accommodation; please inquire directly via wilderness_medicine@nols.edu.

  • Understand and apply the Patient Assessment System
  • Provide effective first aid treatments for common injuries and illnesses
  • Learn to make appropriate evacuation decisions.

Parking: There is one small lot directly across from the EcoCenter. Additional parking can be found 300 yards up the road from the EcoCenter, just beyond the Baylands Nature Reserve Ranger Station. Even more parking can be found further up Embarcadero Rd, near the San Francisquito Creek Trail and Palo Alto Boat Launch. Please arrive early to ensure you have enough time to locate parking and walk to the center if needed.
