We'll cover the 10 essentials and their practical applications. You'll also learn about emergency priorities, how to make an emergency shelter, how to locate and access drinking water, and how to start a fire. This class is designed for anyone who spends time outside and wants to build their confidence with outdoor skills.

A list of required and optional gear items to bring to class, as well as gear provided by REI.
Bring to class:

Closed toed shoes
Daypack - Large enough to carry water, food and layers.
Face Covering(s) - Masks should be two or more layers and fit snugly under the chin and over the nose and mouth. Please come prepared with more than one as your primary mask may get wet and no longer be functional.
Personal Prescription Medications - Including, but not limited to, epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylactic allergies.
Snacks
Sun Protection - Lip balm, sunscreen, wide-brim hats, etc.
Water Bottle
Weather Appropriate Clothing - Moisture wicking synthetic or wool layers to help keep you comfortable and/or dry.

Headlamp/Flashlight
The 10 Essentials - The 10 essentials are navigation tools, a headlamp, first aid kit, knife, fire, shelter, extra food, extra water, and extra clothes.
Mass transit: Take the Morristown Line from Penn Station or Hoboken to Morristown. There is a taxi stand outside the train station. Take the taxi to Lewis Morris County Park at 270 Mendham Rd. Driving details: After Turning in to the Park, pass two parking lots on left, take right onto Sunrise Lake Rd. drive down to the parking lots above the bath house. Meet there by kiosk.
