Overview

Ready to advance your kayaking knowledge? If you've mastered the basics of kayaking and want to explore further afield, you must first learn appropriate kayak safety and rescue techniques. This class builds on REI's Learn to Kayak Class by engaging students in outing safety and risk assessment, edging and bracing, wet exits, self and assisted rescues, and towing. This class is not appropriate for inexperienced paddlers.
- Learn to enter and exit a kayak, including the wet exit, wearing a sprayskirt
- Learn rescue techniques for assisting others
- Learn rescue techniques for self-rescue
- Provide participants with an awareness of how to become a responsible kayaker

Parking is available at Sunset Beach in the 3 lanes on the west side of the lot. A Discover Pass is required. This park is equipped with an automated pay station for visitors to purchase a one-day ($10) or annual Discover Pass ($30) at the entrance. There is also an automated pay station located at Sunset Beach in front of the playground marked with an orange flag.
