Overview
- Group size 8 people
During this class, our instructors will help you understand the information provided on your map, the proper use of your compass, and how to put the two together. You'll learn about magnetic north, true north, and magnetic variation (declination). After covering these fundamentals, you'll get time to practice taking a bearing from the terrain and your map so that you can make sense of your position and plan a route. This engaging course is a great introduction to outdoor navigation and map reading!

CLOSED TOED SHOES REQUIRED. $7 entrance fee. From AZ 87 and E Shea Blvd, travel west on E Shea Blvd for 0.6 mi. Turn right on N Saguaro Blvd, travel north for 3.9 mi. Turn right on N Fountain Hills Blvd, continue until it becomes E McDowell Mountain Rd. Proceed a further 3.6 mi, turn left on McDowell Mountain Park Dr, pass through entrance station. Proceed 5.4 mi, turn left on Asher View Dr. In 0.5 mi park on the right at North Trail. Call 480.945.2881 with any questions day of program.
