@TomV Welcome! I have never been to Minnesota, but I am an amateur astronomer (I look at the sky every night) and I love to geocache, hike and visit State and National Parks here in California. I can't wait for our state to open up again.

Most of the citizen science (also known as community science) I do is through the Los Angeles Natural History Museum. I am a member and I get emails with their projects listed. You can also google citizen scientist and you can find projects with the Audubon Society, NASA, National Geographic... Recently I helped to count the Painted Lady Butterflies migrating through our area. If you have a natural history museum or science museum, check out their website.

We lived in Alaska from 1980-1986. Both my children were born there. I remember bundling them up to go outside. But we always went outside!

We live in California and are under orders to stay home and inside. Except getting outside for fitness is considered essential here also. But all of of parks, trails and beaches are closed. We walk on the one bike path open in our neighborhood and of course streets through the neighborhood. I see many of my neighbors out walking that I don't normally see.

I have been to so many great places across the U.S. But one fairly local place I really enjoyed was Sequoia/Kings Canyon. They had a bit of everything. There are tall mountains, deep canyons, giant sequoia trees, caves, lakes and amazing dark skies. We went during the Dark Sky Festival a few years ago and hope to go again in September.
