@REI-KaraS Thanks for the tips!! I think I’ve heard of Beckler peak and I know I want to do the enchantments!! Thanks Kara for the book recommendation, I love the WTA site but there is almost too much I didn’t know where to start! I’m looking forward to planning and then actually getting out there for some trips!

@rolu13 Welcome to the area!
There are so many good hikes in this region! The WTA is definitely a great resource. If you are on the Eastside St. Ed’s state park, the Redmond Watershed Preserve, or Bridal Trails State Park are close by hiking areas that are great places to start. I think they are all closed now but are great places to explore for a start when things open up again.

Hello everyone
I live in the Seattle area and want to start backpacking. I’ve been getting equipment over the winter and wonder about first trips to work the kinks out and get my kit dialed before bigger trips or taking my daughter out. I was thinking maybe some hike in campgrounds in the area....maybe 3-7 miles in to get some practice. Does anyone know of any good hike in camp grounds or areas that would be good for this in this area? (once things open up of course, but just planning trips will help at this point!)
Thanks for the help!

I live just outside Seattle so there is plenty of outside things to do here. I’m an avid mountain biker and camper. I’ve gotten back into climbing about a year ago and now I’m working to build out my backpacking kit to get further out into the wilderness!
im really looking forward to learning new skills!

Set up the tent in the backyard to camp with my daughter. The weather was forecast to be nice so we left the rain fly off to see the sky. It was a perfect camping trip , even though it started raining and we had to break camp early! she loved it and can’t wIt to get out backpacking because, in her own words, “being outside in nature is better!”
