Hi! I saw that REI's HQ is TRUE certified as a zero waste facility. Thank you for your leadership to reduce waste! Can you take this a step further by only using re-sealable bags to ship customers the goods they buy online through REI? Maybe change the adhesive used for the labels so they are easy to remove? Add a deposit to the re-sealable bag so customers are incentivized to bring them back to the REI stores for re-use. I believe a lot of REI's customers care about the environment and would be willing to play an active role in a "circular" packaging system that reduces waste to our community landfills, especially plastic. Please, REI. Thanks!
@kelly3 Thanks for reaching out!
Thank you, as well, for your thoughtful ideas about how we can work together with our customers to reduce our waste. As you likely have seen in our 2019 Stewardship Report, we set forth some ambitious goals around zero waste in 2020. One that you may be interested in reading more about (if you haven't already) is our Sustainable Packaging Guidelines, that we are not only using to support REI Co-op and Co-op cycles, but also the vendors whose product we sell.
We appreciate you bringing your feedback and ideas to us here in the community. We will be sure to pass them along to our sustainability team.
