Kayak Camping - Northern NJ Area

Hello all-

Looking for a place near northern NJ (can certainly go to southern NJ, eastern PA, and southern NY) to kayak camp.  My wife and I both kayak and we both camp, so we'd like to try combining the two.  We'd be looking at the fall to make our first go of it, but somehow, I don't think this year will present a problem with water levels...

Any ideas would be super helpful...

Kayak camping is a blast and great way to combine your love of paddling and camping.  For a location up in North Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania, the most popular might be the Delaware Water Gap.   Most people are familiar with the Delaware Water Gap as where there's great hiking and camping, or where we may have gone tubing in the summer.  However, there are also campsites along the river that you can plan an overnight paddle.  Some more information about planning your trip can be found here:

Further down south, a popular trip in the Pine Barrens is to do an overnight on the Mullica River in Wharton State Forest.  You can put in at Atsion off Route 206, camp overnight at the Mullica River Camp (check  for reservations), and pull out either near Batsto Village or Pleasant Mills Road/Route 542.  Its a good idea to take 2 cars (and remember your car keys!), but there are some private livery services in the area that you can arrange pick ups with.  There are also some other canoe/kayak campsites on other rivers in Wharton that you can plan a trip around.  If you're in this area in the late summer, be sure to stop by some of the blueberry farms in the region.

Hope this helps!
