Favorite Southern California camping spots

I live in San Diego and we typically go to Idyllwild for car camping. We’d love to explore more areas. Any other places we should be checking out? We don’t want to drive more than 2-3 hours for a weekend trip so LA and the Mammoth are are out for us.

@Lindseyf25 Fellow Lindsay the with approved alternate spelling,

Anza-Borrego State Park when it cools down. Summer is a bit toasty out there. Late fall through spring is the best. There are multiple campgrounds and dispersed areas to camp. It's a huge park to explore. Palomar Mountain, Julian and Cuyamaca are worth checking out, too.

Hi Lindsey,

I have enjoyed camping at Mt. Laguna in the Cleveland National Forest. Sadly there are no swimming spots nearby but there is a large meadow to walk around and explore. Additionally, the nights are perfect for stargazing.
