Trail Runner Recommendations

Hello, I've been wearing the Saucony Peregrine Women/s shoe for about 6 months-day hiking, walking, backpacking.  I'm on my second pair and up to now I've really liked them.

New problem-the left shoe is starting to rub my ankle bone.  I've tried retying, leuko tape, moleskin, walking differently, etc. no help.  Same thing has happened with a pair of mid-boot Merrell's which were also my go to's.

Any recommendations for shoes that are cut deeper, to avoid that ankle rub.  Please no Altra's or zero drops, unless that's the only thing that will give my back my hiking feet. Thanks

I love Altras.  I wear the Superiors (low-cushion trail runners) for hiking and trail running.  My wife likes the Lone Peaks for hiking and general wear. She has two pair - high tops for anything involving a backpack, and low tops for everything else.

We both like pairing them with light gaiters to keep trail-crumbs out of our socks, but my superiors allow fine dust to come into the toebox anyway.

Hi @gardenes, nice to hear from you although I am sorry you're having trouble with your Saucony runners. While I have never had trouble myself with trail runners rubbing uncomfortably on my ankle like that, I will say that I love the fit of most Topo running shoes precisely because of how low they cut. If you're planning to use them for hiking, you might like the Topo Ultraventure, although if you're looking for something with a rock plate, you'll get more protection from the Terraventure 2 .

If you want to dive into the details on the specs of Topo or another brand, this would be a great opportunity for you to make use of our brand new Virtual Outfitting service. It's free, and you get one on one time with a specialist to help answer any question you might have!
