Holiday traditions come in every shape and form. Whether they're long-standing or newer ideas, at home or in the backcountry, with friends or family, there are endless ways to gather the holiday spirit and have a good time.
One of my favorites is a big bonfire with my extended family the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. More often than not we find a reason to bring in the tractor to rearrange logs and it's a blast whether you're six or sixty!
A tradition with my friends is going to play ice hockey on the third night of Hanukkah. Why the third night? No clue, but it started that way and the momentum continues! With bellies full of latkes and headlamps in tow, we make our way to the neighborhood rink. Fingers are already crossed that conditions are a bit better this year than last!
Whether it's a post-meal walk around the neighborhood, gifting experiences on a big day, venturing off into the mountains, or anything in between, it would be fun to see what this community is up to in the months ahead!
What are the traditions you do with family and friends over the holidays to make the season special?
Being outside and counting birds as part of the annual Christmas Bird Count
well, not as exciting but we enjoy the annual Holiday Lights 1.5 mile stroll at Newport News (VA) Park, seeing a production of the The Nutcracker by the VA Ballet Company, then visiting Busch Gardens (Williamsburg, VA) "Christmas Town"
All in one night, going for the FKT this year....just kidding,
Happy Thanksgiving All!
WAIT! thought of more.....decorating the inside of the house, family dinners.
