Protecting the Appalachian Trail: Boundary Monitoring in Palmerton, PA

Corridor Monitoring Workshop.jpgThe federal legislation that fortifies the security of the Appalachian Trails provides for a protected corridor of its adjacent lands. This corridor not only buffers the Trail from encroaching development, it also serves as a migratory path for many species on the eastern seaboard.

Spend the day, or part of the day, corridor monitoring with the Keystone Trail Association (KTA) and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy on Wednesday, November 20th at 9:00 a.m.

Hiking through rough terrain and following the blazes of the Trail’s “property line” is required to ensure that no encroachments are being made on this priceless resource.

Work includes walking off-trail to identify markers, and some orientation navigation.

Be sure to wear a blaze orange item (hat, shirt, vest, jacket, etc.), sturdy boots, long pants, and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, insect repellent, and plenty of water. Please bring tools if you have them, some tools will be provided.

Advanced registration necessary. Please follow this link to register.
