Smoky Mountains - Suggestions for Day Hiking Gear

Gearing up for a smoky mountains national park visit in late November this fall. I mostly hike Southern California therefore I don't prepare for anything other than the sun 🙂 Plan to do 4-5 days of day hiking and looking for advice on boots/shoes, 1 jacket, and pants.

Smoky mountains? A respirator. Reflective fire blanket in case you are caught in a firestorm. Signalling device for rescue personnel.

Seriously hope you don't damage your health taking unnecessary risks.

@AndrewRigby Prepare for as much rain as you can imagine.  If you're lucky it wont rain but the Smokies are actually considered a "temperate rain forest".  I just hiked thru 2 weeks ago and I had one day of no rain.  It rained alot so be prepared for it

Andrew thats a link to a Facebook thread discussing your same question.  You might find it helpful.  I have 30 more miles to do to finish the Smokies and I was considering backpacking it the week of Thanksgiving but after reading some of the comments and experiences I might bail out of that plan.  Might have lots of snow...slow hiking conditions and alot of closed roads.  So if you need to get off trail it may be impossible due to the roads
