Advice: Best water Filter for filling a hydration bladder?

@AnthonyJ Thanks for reaching out!

This is a good question, with lots of different variables that are going to impact the decision. A good starting point is to think about weight and convenience: are you concerned with the weight of the filter or about the amount of work required to fill your bladder?

In terms of weight and convenience, it is hard to beat the Sawyer Mini Water Filter and the Sawyer Fast Fill Hydration Pack Adapter, which allows you to fill your bladder via the tube without having to remove it from your backpack. There is a great video on the Hydration Pack Adapter link that shows just how quick and easy this method is.

Another quick and easy option would be a product like the MSR Thru-Link In Line Microfilter, which splices into your drink tube and allows you to fill your bladder with water from a lake or stream and it filters the water as you drink.

Lastly, you could use a pump filter to pump directly into your bladder opening, or, as is the case with the Katadyn Hiker Pro Clear Microfilter, you can pump water directly into your bladder with the included adapter (video also included on the link).

For more information about water filtration and purification, please check out this Expert Advice article on How to Choose a Water Filter for Purifier. There is a lot of good info there that may be applicable to your location and variable water conditions.

Hope this helps!

Thanks John... I’m definitely gonna go with the MSR. Fits my needs perfectly and only 2.5 ozs.
