Hey REI folk! I would need an REI employee whose been around for a loooong time! I bought a wonderful stainless steel coffee mug from you guys probably 20 years ago or more. It had liquid measurements stamped inside the wall on the steel, was vacuum filled (double walled yet pretty thin) and had a detachable steel handle. (the pinch kind - pinch to remove) It was a squat one, about the dimensions of a regular coffee cup, not a tall one.
I can find NO picture of it anywhere online and have searched a LOT on Google. I loved this cup and it was lost several years ago. If I recall it was NOT an REI product but made by ano'ther manufacturer.
I know this is a big ask and probably a lost cause.
Thanks a bunch,
Hi @BradfordD - Thanks for reaching out with such a great question. It's wonderful to hear that you loved your mug so much!
While I do not have the expertise to point you in the right direction, there's a chance another member of the community will recollect what mug you're talking about. @REI-JohnJ is our vintage REI gear expert, so while it is a long shot, maybe something in your description will ring a bell for him!
Utah State University also has an archive of old REI magazines. While most of what they have online is catalog covers, there is also a list of what they have physical copies of as well. That could lead you on a true treasure hunt!
Thanks again for bringing this question to the community!
This is awesome! What an amazing drawing! I've been slowly going through some resources to see what I can find out. This will help a lot, thanks!
Was it similar in style to this Cascade Stainless Cup? I realize the handle is at a different angle, it's not deep enough, and it isn't a double wall. However, I'm wondering if it is similar enough that it could be the same brand?
Yeah, I mean that's an approximation, but the one I am after was of much superior construction. You know, it may not even be a true REI product, but something you guys were selling by another manufacturer. I recall there being a stamp on the bottom from the maker but cant recall who that was. No worries, I knew it was a long shot, thanks for your time!
Okay, last try for a little bit. Take a look at the GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless 1.1 L Boiler and let us know if it looks at all familiar. GSI has been around since the mid-eighties so there is a possibility that they could, at least, be the brand that made your mug. Thoughts?
