Increasing outdoor participation in the black communities

Hi Everyone!  I have an idea that could increase actual participation from black community:  put flyers by hand in community advertising outdoor activities..challenging and overcoming fears, comfort in the outdoors.  The North Face logo is predominant in black communities through clothing and now is a good time to invite folks to become a part of this community..

@janeokamurasanders there are several assumptions in your post which do not accurately reflect all members of the Black community, namely that all are unaware or fearful of outdoor activities, uncomfortable spending time outside, and that the popularity of a brand is indicative of latent enthusiasm for the outdoors.

If you are interested in getting involved in increasing equity in the outdoors among Black communities, connecting with one of our partner organizations may be a good place to start. Many of those partnerships can be found in our article How to Support Organizations Working Toward a More Inclusive Outdoor Community.

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.

Maybe treat it like taking anyone else outdoors instead of singeing a group out with a bias of low expectations? Join a church, start a group to take the kids on a day float. Start or participate in scouts.
