Advice on washing technical jackets - puffy and rain together?

I know I should use a front rather than top loader but is it ok to wash my rain jacket & down puffy together? Thanks

@CC360 great question! We would advise washing those 2 types of jackets separately because the detergents we recommend are different (and therefore do different things).

  • For your rain jacket, we recommend using the Nikwax Tech Wash first to remove all dirt, sweat, and build-up from the jacket; we then recommend using the Nikwax Tx Direct (either wash-in or spray-on) to re-invigorate the DWR on the outside of the jacket.
  • For your down puffy, we recommend using the Nikwax Down Wash Direct to clean the jacket, as it is specifically designed to clean feathers that require loft to insulate.

We hope this helps!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.

I would think twice or more before ever machine washing those items.

If mine were covered in mud, I would just rinse by hand and hang up.

Machines can really do a job on those items.

Normally, one can go YEARS without deep washing them.

Be careful and good luck!
