The Twin Cities metro area (Minneapolis/Saint Paul, MN) is one of the few areas in the country that has a national park running right through it! The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area is a 72-mile stretch of the Mississippi River that was designated a national park in 1988. The park is comprised of 89 state, regional, and local parks from CoonRapids to Hastings. This means that hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, biking, birding, and so many more outdoor opportunities are just a short walk or drive away for more than 3.6 million people in the area.
