60%? Amateur! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

You’re absolutely right though. I’ve done steaks at home via sous vide and brought them in a cooler and seared them at the site.

I love car camping to get closer to trailheads- for me its more about getting close to my backpack/hike destination than it is about getting outside. But for some car camping is the best - either way enjoy your time outside!

Sounds peaceful and lovely. I spent my childhood summers in SE West Virginia, and have very fond memories exploring and developing a love of nature. Would love to visit that National Forest someday!

Hi @John .  I just saw this thread based on your recent post...and noticed you mentioned camping at Assateague and at OBX.  Assateague is practically in my "backyard".  I've visited there quite frequently but have never camped there.  I visit OBX once a year with a group of friends, but again, have never camped there. I have ridden my bike all around both areas and driven my Jeep on the off-road sections of each.

I may have to try the camping there, but have always daunted by the mosquitos and biting flies.

I have experienced attack mosquitoes at Assateague and kamikaze biting flies at Ocracoke. Prevailing winds seems to have little effect on mosquitoes but wind speed does. A breeze off the back bay at Ocracoke invites  biting flies but an ocean breeze seems to eliminate them.

As a smaller woman who likes to camp alone, I love having My car at my campsite (sleep in tent). It’s like having a home base.  It’s also nice having the freedom to drive to different destinations/hiking spots/swimming spots .
