Hey y'all, I just recently moved down to Austin and am starting to get tired of running around my neighborhood. Thought I would set up a conversation here to see if anyone has any good trails/routes for a run anywhere between 3-8 miles. Took the day to run around Town Lake yesterday and couldn't help but think there was a lot more of this city/surroundings I am not taking advantage of. Super excited to explore the new surroundings!!

@cmfletcher Thanks for reaching out!

We connected with our Austin team and their first suggestion was the Town Lake loop, which it sounds like you have already done. They also had a couple more suggestions:

  • The Shoal Creek Trail. It is a less crowded urban trail that runs about 4 miles from the river up to 38th street right through the heart of Austin, but sill manages to feel secluded.
  • A more rugged trail option would be the Barton Creek Greenbelt. It is a natural, shady, rocky trail following Barton Creek (seasonal flow) for 7 miles from Zilker Park right next to Barton Springs Pool.

Hopefully this gives you some new ideas for places to run!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.

I suggest the following trails:

Town Lake - very standard, flat and pedestrian

Slaughter Creek Trail - good trail for experienced runners

Coyote Run Trail

Walnut Creek Metro Park

Southern Walnut Creek Trail - paved trail

Texas Wanderer
