@ajordan well, if you've been to Monte Sano, Cheaha, etc., then you've pretty much hit a lot of what Alabama has for day hikes, etc.  I'd suggest heading towards Chattanooga and up to the Blue Ridge Parkway if possible.  You can also head over to where the Appalachian Trail crosses the Nantahala.  Grab the trail and walk it for a while. The hike of Mount Mitchell is always a good one for our family but it requires a full day drive to get up there.  While there though, you can spend the week hiking and see some of the best the East has to offer.  Good luck!
