Seeking great kayaking spots

I usually launch at Algonkian Regional Park and can paddle up- or down-river for a couple of hours or a day trip.  I'm always searching for other mainly flatwater spots that are easy to get into and out of.  Any suggestions?

Hello @KayakerK!  Great question!  How far are you willing to travel for some great paddling?  I recently checked out Belle Haven Marina in Alexandria and really enjoyed the calm waters of the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve.  It's more protected than the open Potomac so chances are high you'd have a nice, flat paddle.  Have fun out there!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.

Check out https://www.americanwhitewater.org

They are a great resource for white water kayaking but if you just filter out for level 1-2 rivers you should be fine. They update the water levels regularly as well as have user-generated photos/warnings etc.

Jug Bay and other areas of the Pautuxent.

Mallows Bay in Maryland.  It has a kayak launch that makes it super easy to get in and out of the water and you have awesome birdwatching and history .
