camping and kayaking/canoeing in Virginia or Maryland (No RVs)

(No RVs)camping and kayaking/canoeing in Virginia or Maryland

Four of us wanted to camp after a day trip of kayaking/canoeing. Two of us will return to DC but two other people want to stay overnight tent camping by a river (primitive and no RVs)  MD or VA and the distance is about one hour max because two of us have children at home. Where do you recommend?  Names or places are helpful. I know Shenandoah or Potomac River are good place to go but I need exact locations. Thanks!

It is not necessary by the river but we would like to stay away from the cities because we wanted to hear no cars driving by all night long. Thanks!

Here is my best recommendation.  The Maryland Department of Natural Resources website.
