I'm looking for places to kayak in and around the Baltimore-DC area where it is easy to get in and out of the water because of a bad knee. Once I'm in my kayak, I'm fine, but launching docks are difficult. Looking for places where I can park just a short distance away because I've my own kayak. Thanks for any help out there!
You should look at Mallows Bay in Maryland about 40 minutes south of DC. It has a kayak launch that makes it super easy to get in and out of the water.
Galesville, Maryland - south of Annapolis - on the West River. County wharf - easy parking - easy launch. Paddling to the Rhode River - has an island to beach and swim - Smithsonian Environmental Reseach Center owns most of the shoreline in this area - great for birds/waterfowl. Can paddle out into the Chesapeake Bay - fairly protected along the shoreline. Nearby restaurants/bars for post-paddle refreshments.
